The del.icio.us world of social bookmarking

I have long been a proponent of del.icio.us (it figures as a permanent link on this page) and have enhanced my own "browsing experience" on account of it, but until yesterday, I had no idea how powerful and resourceful it really is. For starters, with an account on del.icio.us one has universal access to one's bookmarks across platforms. In addition to this, one can also use the account to put up, "tag" and itemise any particular site or URL. The one drawback with del.icio.us is the lack of privacy since all of one user's bookmarks are visible to everybody else but I am sure with time this is certain to be addressed. One can also subscribe to the tags that are of interest and this way pertinent links are received in the inbox. But the coolest feature of all is the subscriptions that are possible to different tags which allow sites or pages listed under those the tags to be visible to the user as part of his inbox, the best part of course being that everything is RSS-enabled. Besides, Mozilla Firefox now has an extension for del.icio.us that significantly simplifies posting pages and links.
