Abstract: I'll be discussing lossy data compression. Specifically,
high-resolution vector quantization. In this first talk I will consider
fixed-rate quantizers and so the main focus will be on their distortion. The
goal will be to understand what determines the performance of such
quantizers and ultimately obtain a formula that describes the best
performance possible.
