Research

One of the themes in professor Barr's research is to enhance the mathematical and scientific foundations of computer graphics, extending it beyond mere picture-making to the point that reconfigurable models have great predictive power in the sciences. The work also includes generic methods for mathematical modeling, rendering, simulation, scientific visualization and human/computer interaction, and methods for constructing, simulating, rendering, and perceiving the shape and behavior of a broad range of physical objects. A source of motivation and long term goal for the research is the creation of tools for simulation and behavioral prediction of mechanical and biophysical structures. The methods are intended to eventually be applied. to predictively simulate the behavior of cellular organelles.
