[Nov 12] The midterm solution set has been posted.
[Nov 11] The midterm has been graded. The average was 4.8 out of 6.0, with a standard deviation of 0.9. You will be able to pick up your midterm from Maria Lopez in Jorgensen room 278 on Monday afternoon. I'll post the solution set later in the week.
[Nov 6] I've extended the due date for lab 5 until Friday, November 9 at 6 PM to compensate for having to do the midterm and an assignment in the same week. I hope this makes the week a bit less brutal.
[Nov 2] The slides from the midterm review lecture are here.
[Nov 1] The midterm is out!
[Nov 1] The CS 1 midterm review is tonight in Jorgensen 74 at 9 PM. Joseph Schaeffer will be the lecturer, and I (Mike) will also be there. Attendance is likely to significantly improve your midterm grade.
[Oct 25] Due to the CS retreat taking place tomorrow (Friday), Joseph Schaeffer's recitation section in Spalding 102 from 2-3 PM will be cancelled. If you were planning to attend that section, just go to Donnie's section in Steele 114. Again, sorry for the inconvenience. Donnie will also be taking over for Joseph's 1-2 PM section in Jorgensen 74. Thanks, Donnie!
[Oct 17] Donnie Pinkston's recitation section on Friday from 2-3 PM in Steele 110 has had a location change. Now it's on Friday from 2-3 in Steele 114. Sorry for the inconvenience.
[Oct 12] OK, we finally have all six recitation slots available, including a new one on Fridays from 3-4 PM in Jorgensen 287 which won't start until next Friday. See the admin page for the other times. So far, nobody has shown up on Thursday recitation times, so I'd like to remind everyone that they're available for people who can't make Friday recitations. People who attend recitations typically do much better on CS 1 than people who don't.
[Oct 10] If you look on the admin page you will see that there are now five recitation sections on Thursday and Friday. We're still working on a Friday 3-4 PM slot.
[Oct 10] There are six computer tables just inside the student lab (Jorgensen 154), available for whoever wants them (even for personal use). There are three 48" w x 30" d and three 42" w x 30"d. There is no storage space available, so they will be trashed if not taken. They are labeled FREE.
[Oct 10] House ombudspeople have been chosen! They are:
We'll meet every Thursday at noon in front of the Athenaeum on the olive walk, starting tomorrow. Then we'll have lunch at the Ath and talk about how the course is going. To everyone else: talk to your ombudsperson if you have a comment about the course you want him/her to relay to me.
[Oct 06] To those of you who have tried logging in to CS1man, you should know that (a) Donnie is setting it up this weekend, and it may not be fully functional until Monday, and (b) it does not use the same password as your CS cluster account (they are completely unrelated). You will receive an email once your CS1man account is set up with instructions on how to access it.
[Oct 04] Lab sections assignments have been posted! Find them here. If you are enrolled in the class, please check that you are in a section and that the login name is correct. If there is no login name, please email me as soon as you have one. Everyone got their first or second choice of lab section times.
[Oct 04] The slides from this evening's Linux/CS1man/DrScheme lecture are here.
[Oct 04] There will be recitation sections starting tomorrow. See the administrative handout here for the exact locations and times. Note that Donnie Pinkston's 2-3 recitation will not be held tomorrow. We should be up to a full six recitation sections by next week. I apologize for the inconvenience.
[Oct 03] The following people need to resubmit their lab section preferences to me: Joel Nikolaus and Viet Anh Nguyen Huu (if I read that correctly). Please send me your preferences by email.
[Oct 03] Somebody left a copy of SICP in the lecture hall today. Somebody also left a Motorola/Verizon cell phone. I have both of them in my office in Jorgensenn 154A. Email me if either of the items belong to you.
[Oct 03] For those who didn't fill in a lab section signup sheet, the form is here. You should email me your preferences (from 1 to 4).
Also note that if you missed the daily quiz for Monday's lecture because you just added the course, you can download it from the lectures page and email me your answers.[Oct 01] Here is the link to sign up for a computer account on the CS cluster machines. Please fill out the form and submit it electronically (by hitting the "submit" button at the bottom) as soon as possible, if not sooner.
Welcome to a new year of CS 1!
